Description
Yang-Mills quantum field theory in four dimensional spacetime has two important features, which distinguish it among other field theoretical models and makes it a candidate for mathematically self-consistent dynamical system. These are asymptotic freedom and dimensional transmutation. The divergences, which plague QFT, play positive role here. I shall explain these features, using the formalism of background field.
