Description

We discuss certain aspects of the problem of extending quantum-mechanical formal scattering theory
in such a way that it becomes suitable for quantum field theory as well.
We consider two ways of extending the formulas that define
the scattering states, employing two different limiting procedures.
We verify the generalized formulas by applying them to specific examples, using Hamiltonian
perturbation theory.
The two approaches are found to give the same results,
which also agree with the results given
by well-known methods that are specialized to quantum field theory.
