The Lágymányos campus is one of the biggest among the many sites of ELTE. Its closeness to the city center and the possibility of future expansion played a key role in choosing this location during the 60's. In the second half of the 80's, the Department of Chemistry moved to Lágymányos; it was later merged into the Northern Building (indicated by the red arrow in the picture below), in which this year's IGST conference will take place. The Northern Building was constructed between 1994 and 1998. Its top took its current form in 2011 when the digital planetarium was installed between the observatory and the radio antenna. The Southern Building (on the left) was built in 2001. The Lágymányos campus presently hosts the Faculties of Science, Informatics, and Social Sciences.
